🧰 The 3 Apps Behind A Smoother Business

🧰 Smart tools. Useful tips. Weekly.

Hola friend 👋,

I’m Josep. Each week, I hunt down practical tools and productivity hacks to help digital doers like you do more with less effort.

This week: apps to run most of your business online.

Businesses do not usually need 40 tools to run. They need a way to be found, take bookings, get paid, and notice when something breaks.

So today's stack is about covering that flow without building an enterprise software labyrinth.

Plus: a monitoring tool, a mini calculator lead-magnet idea, and a bug that put millions of websites at risk.

GoDaddy Airo

If you need a simple online home for a business, GoDaddy Airo is worth knowing about. Its AI Builder lets you describe what you want, then generate a live website or web app from a prompt, with hosting, publishing, domains, SSL, forms, analytics, and code export tied into GoDaddy's ecosystem.

It’s also an expert coder and can handle database and backend logic for you, so you can build more advanced sites and apps without managing any of that yourself – from membership sites and lead-gen calculators to even a Trello-style app.

This is built for convenience, not ultimate flexibility, which is exactly what many small business sites/apps need. Just don’t expect to ship enterprise-grade apps with GoDaddy, you’ll still want a proper dev team for that.

Cal.com

Once your site exists, the next bottleneck is usually scheduling. Cal.com helps leads book calls, consultations, appointments, or onboarding sessions without the classic "does Tuesday at 3 work?" email chain.

The free individual plan is unusually generous: unlimited event types, calendar connections, meetings, email and SMS notifications, plus integration with Stripe and PayPal for payments (and a cheeky Calendly import feature). Paid plans add the team layer: round-robin scheduling, managed and collective event types, booking analytics and more.

If you’re a consultant, agency, or coach that sells your time, it’s a useful tool.

HoneyBook

Booking the call is only half the job. HoneyBook is for what happens after someone says, "Great, send me the details." It brings proposals, contracts, invoices, payments, scheduling, client portals and more into one client-workflow platform.

The fit is strongest for online service providers (coaches, consultants, lawyers, etc). It lets you capture inquiries, send proposals and contracts, get them signed, collect payment, and automate a lot of the repetitive admin that would otherwise drag on through email.

It’s probably overkill if you only need to send the occasional proposal, and you should expect a bit of ramp-up time before you feel fully comfortable with it.

✨ Totally Off-Topic… But Brilliant

Better Stack monitors your site’s uptime and SSL health, plus other technical checks, so you can spot outages before a customer does – mainly you’ll use it for your site though. If your service business depends on being online, it lets you spot outages before a customer does, instead of quietly losing new clients to a broken site.

I like it because it’s easy to use, can stop quiet revenue leaks, and includes a generous free tier. Instead of just shouting “site down,” Better Stack records screenshots and rich error details when a page fails, so you can see exactly what went wrong.

It may be more technical than some owners need, but the free uptime tier is approachable for monitoring a few important pages, especially your homepage, booking page, checkout, and lead forms.

⚡This Week’s Productivity Hack

Static PDFs still work, but many service businesses can make a better first impression with a tiny interactive tool.

This week's hack: turn one lead magnet into a mini calculator, quiz, checklist, or recommendation helper.

Examples:

  • A coach: "Which program fits you?"
  • A web designer: "Estimate your website budget."
  • A consultant: "How ready is your business for X?"
  • An agency: "What marketing channel should you fix first?"

Canva Code 2.0 can now create interactive experiences from a prompt, which is useful for lightweight prototypes you can edit visually and share with your potential clients to get those leads coming in.

So instead of sending yet another PDF, you can create custom landing pages, mini calculators, quizzes, or recommendation tools in Canva. Simple interactive experiences that showcase your expertise and help turn interest into inquiries.

🍿 Plot Twist of the Week

Sometimes the most important app in your business is the one you almost never open.

Some outlets reported that hackers were actively exploiting a tool inside cPanel (a very popular visual hosting manager). It let attackers bypass the login screen on exposed hosting control panels – source.

cPanel is a popular tool, and over 1.5 million servers — powering tens of millions of websites — were potentially exposed. Attackers could jump straight into the admin panel, which in practice means taking over the hosting account: changing sites, reading or deleting files and databases, creating new users – not a good day for cPanel.

That's it for this week. Thanks for reading! Next time, we'll look at ways to use AI for marketers.

Cheers,

Josep

This week: work planning that doesn't become more work. Planning tools are supposed to give the day some shape. This week: document the little business processes before they become big problems. Most small teams do not notice how much work lives inside one person’s head until that person is sick, on holiday, busy, or simply forgets a step. Then the “quick task” becomes a detective story. The fix is simple: capture how the...
