This week: building landing pages with a little help from AI.
A friend of mine needed a landing page for an event a few weeks ago. He didn’t need a full website, just a simple, effective page to get the word out and collect sign-ups.
The problem? Traditional landing page builders like Instapage are expensive. Really expensive.
That got me exploring. So, I researched for AI-powered alternatives that don’t cost an arm and a leg. This week, I’m sharing what I found.
Plus: a geeky AI code editor I love, a simple Google Calendar hack to keep you on track, and a funny story about a marketer who got trolled by his own newsletter.
If you're serious about creating landing pages, Landingi is a really solid choice. It’s a powerful platform with a ton of features to help you build, optimize, and convert. It’s not an AI-first builder, but it has some interesting AI tools, like an assistant that helps you write copy and a smart section generator.
Landingi is for people who are creating landing pages regularly and need a robust tool with all the bells and whistles: A/B testing, pop-ups, and a ton of integrations. It has a bit of a steeper learning curve than some of the other options, but the flexibility may be worth it for some.
My friend didn't need all of that for his event, so we kept looking for something a bit more lightweight and affordable. But for serious marketers, Landingi is a powerful, feature-packed option.
I have to say, I was seriously impressed with Bolt. It’s an AI-first app builder that you can use to create stunning, professional-looking pages in minutes. Just type in a prompt, and Bolt’s AI Agent gets to work, generating a complete landing page (or app) in minutes as you can see in the video.
I love that they have a free plan, even if it’s a bit limited (no custom domain & daily token limit). For developers and designers, the GitHub and Figma integrations are a really nice touch, allowing you to import your projects easily.
My friend was really close to picking Bolt, but he also needed to integrate email marketing to capture leads from his event. While Bolt is amazing for building the page, you’d need a separate tool for the email side of things.
Spoiler alert! This is the one my friend went with.
MailerLite is actually an email marketing platform (we’ve used it for Tooltester and other projects), but it has a fantastic simple landing page builder built right in. If you need to both create a landing page and capture leads, it’s an incredibly cost-effective solution.
You can build a great-looking page with their drag-and-drop editor, and then use the same tool to create sign-up forms, send automated email sequences, and manage your subscribers. I have to say, its editor isn’t the easiest to use, but you get by easily. And feature-wise, it’s the perfect all-in-one tool, just don’t expect every fancy option when you’re building landing pages.
The free plan is really generous (but no access to templates), and the paid plans are some of the most affordable on the market. If you’re just starting out, or you want to keep your costs down, MailerLite is a fantastic option.

Cursor is a fantastic AI-powered code editor based on Microsoft’s Visual Studio Code. It’s packed with AI features that make coding faster and more intuitive. You can use it to write, debug, and refactor code with the help of models like GPT, DeepSeek, Claude, and more.
But yes, you don’t need to be a developer to use it. You can use it to (kind of) replace the developer – of course you need to be a bit technically oriented and not scared to experiment.
It even has a built-in terminal, which I use with Claude Code to work on my side projects – I know, a bit of a workaround. I can be ‘developing’ in the terminal (using Claude Code), and then switch to the AI chat to ask questions about what I’m doing.
And yes, you could definitely use Cursor to design and develop a completely custom landing page from scratch. You’d need, however, to host it somewhere like Hostinger (find more about them), but it gives you total creative freedom. It’s a bit of a geeky tool, but if you’re into that sort of thing, it’s amazing.

⚡This Week’s Productivity Hack
I’ve been using this simple trick for years, and it’s saved me from missing more meetings than I can count. Google Calendar has a feature that sends you a daily agenda email with all your events for the day – I guess other calendar apps do too.
Here’s how to set it up:
Open Google Calendar and go to "Settings".
Under "Settings for my calendars", select your calendar.
Scroll down to "Other notifications".
Next to "Daily agenda" select "Email" from the dropdown menu.
That’s it! Now you’ll get a neat summary of your day in your inbox every morning. It’s a silly little thing, but it’s so helpful.
🍿 Plot Twist of the Week
This one made me laugh out loud. A marketer named Alex James Moore shared a screenshot on LinkedIn of a user that ‘abused’ him verbally using his own newsletter.
Pay attention, there’s some science here 😂.
The user signed up for his mailing list, but he used a fake name.
The name? "A**hole"
And then used Alex’s email to sign up.
Can you imagine Alex’s shock when he received the unexpected confirmation email for his own email marketing list, addressed to ‘A**hole’? 😂
Kind of pointless (and a bit rude), but kind of genius too. My main takeaway is that if you have your own newsletter, it might be a good idea to prevent subscribers from being able to sign up twice!
That’s it for this week. Thanks for reading! Next time, we’re tackling a big topic for us: email marketing. My colleagues from our sister project, EmailTooltester.com, will share what apps we need to be using to send more and better emails (and how we can even do this for free!).
