🧰 Smart tools. Useful tips. Weekly.

Hola friend 👋,

I’m Josep. Each week, I hunt down practical tools and productivity hacks to help digital doers like you do more with less effort.

This week: tools to get more customers and leads.

Getting new clients is becoming harder and harder for ecommerce businesses. However, it’s also a challenge for regular businesses. The tools I'm sharing can help you get more leads and potential customers for your online store, but also for your brick-and-mortar (or even online) business.

Plus: one unexpected gem to improve your website, socials, and even presentation copy. And a smart, simple hack to use AI better.

Omnisend

If you're running an ecommerce store, you know how crucial email and SMS marketing are for building relationships with customers and driving sales. But managing multiple channels can be a real headache. That's where Omnisend comes in and can make things a lot easier.

Omnisend is an all-in-one platform that combines email, SMS, and web push notifications, allowing you to create seamless, automated marketing campaigns. It includes tools like popups, landing pages, discount codes, and even Wheel of Fortune forms to help you capture new customers.

At our sister project, EmailTooltester, Omnisend is our top pick for ecommerce store owners because of its ease of use, powerful automation features, and excellent segmentation capabilities – more in the video above.

It’s perfect for ecommerce store owners who want to take their marketing automation to the next level and increase their sales without juggling multiple tools. And in case you need it, their award-winning customer support is available 24/7 to help you.

Fera AI

In the world of online shopping, trust is everything. Customers want to see that real people are buying and loving your products. That's where Fera.ai comes in – a tool that helps you automatically collect and display customer reviews, photos, and videos.

Fera.ai integrates with major ecommerce platforms like Shopify, Wix, and WooCommerce, as well as review platforms like Etsy, Facebook, and Google Business. The idea is to build social proof and credibility, which can significantly boost your conversion rates.

Sadly, there's no free plan, only a free trial, but the pricing is quite reasonable for the value it provides (starts at $7 per month).

Photoroom

Product photos can make or break an ecommerce business. But you don't need to be a professional photographer or a Photoshop wizard to create stunning product images. Photoroom is a mobile and web app that lets you create professional-looking product photos in seconds (using AI).

With Photoroom, you can remove backgrounds, change them to a clean white or a custom color, add text and logos, and even create AI-generated ones. It’s perfect for creating images for your online store, social media, or marketing materials (it’s not an ecommerce-only app).

I’ve used it to quickly create some test images, and I love how intuitive and fast it is – it feels a bit like Canva. While the free version is great for basic edits, you’ll need to upgrade to the Pro plan to access all the features, like video generation.

✨ Totally Off-Topic… But Brilliant

I'm a big believer in the power of clear and concise writing. Whether you're crafting a blog post, email, or social media update, your words matter.

ProWritingAid is an AI-powered writing assistant that goes way beyond basic grammar and spell checking. It analyzes your writing for style, readability, and even emotional tone.

It integrates with popular writing apps like Google Docs, MS Word, and Scrivener, and also includes a handy Chrome extension so you can use it almost anywhere on the web.

I tested it for a couple of days to improve my newsletter copy and posts, and I was happy with the results. However, I don’t think I write enough to justify the price of the tool.

🛠️ Alternative to: Grammarly, Hemingway Editor, WhiteSmoke

⚡This Week’s Productivity Hack

To get the most out of AI chatbots like ChatGPT and Gemini, you need to understand the concept of a "context window". Think of it as the AI's short-term memory. It's the maximum amount of text, files, etc., the model can consider at once, including your prompts and its own responses.

To get better results, keep these tips in mind:

  • Provide clear context upfront: The more relevant information you give the AI at the beginning of a conversation, the better it will understand your request and provide a more accurate response.
  • Cut the fluff: If you can say it in 500 words, don’t use 1,000. Don't add unnecessary files either. This helps the AI stay focused on what actually matters.
  • Be concise and structured: Use bullet points, summaries, or numbered lists to make your prompts easier for the AI to process.
  • Start new conversations for new topics: Don’t try to cram too many different topics into a single conversation, as the AI will get confused (just as a person would). Start a new chat for each new topic to keep the AI focused.

🤓 Pro Tip: Passing content in Markdown is a great choice for AI tools, since Markdown uses far fewer characters than HTML, for instance. Markdown keeps the text cleaner but still offers a clear structure.

By understanding and leveraging the context window, you can get much better results from your AI chatbots and save yourself a lot of time and frustration.

🍿 Plot Twist of the Week

Microsoft's push to put "AI everywhere" took an interesting turn in December (source). Smart TV owners were surprised to find a Microsoft Copilot AI icon on their LG home screens after an update, with no way to remove it.

The move was met with backlash from users who saw it as unwanted bloatware and an invasion of their privacy. Social media was flooded with complaints, and LG quickly promised a fix to allow users to delete the shortcut.

It was a clash between Big Tech's grand ambitions and the simple desire of users to control their own devices. It's a good reminder that even the biggest companies can misjudge their audience.

That’s it for this week. Thanks for reading! Next time, we’ll look at open-source apps you can use to save serious money.

Cheers,

Josep
